Where Does Electricity Come From?

2 of 3
...

The generator changes the mechanical energy of the spinning rotor into electrical current in a conductor by induction, either by spinning the conductor through a magnetic field or by spinning a magnetic field around the conductor.

Did you know?
The generator is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction discovered in 1831 by Michael Faraday, a British physicist. Faraday discovered that when an electrical conductor, like copper wire, moves through a magnetic field, electric current will flow (or be “induced” in the conductor. When this happens, the mechanical energy of the moving wire is converted into the electrical energy of the current that flows in the wire.
