Fossil fuels would last longer if the demand for energy decreased, energy supplies increased, or both. Conserving energy reduces demand, for instance, when we set thermostats a few degrees higher in summer and lower in winter. So does using more efficient appliances. Energy supplies could be increased by tapping into renewable energy resources like wind and solar power. Applied on a large scale, actions like these would enhance domestic security and economic security as well as reduce pollution.
Energy conservation is the care, prudent use, or preservation of natural resources. Conservation can be practiced at home, at school, and on the job by forming energy-conserving habits and making energy-conserving choices.
